The scientific effort is beginning to reveal psychological mechanisms that seem to allow the mind to affect the body. 

What’s referred to as Mind/Body Medicine has helped bolster disease resistance and brought relief from symptoms to thousands of people. 

Many medical centers are offering mind/body interventions to their patients and encouraging further research on this approach to healing.

The scientific basis for considering the mind/body connection emerges from recent research on the physiological mechanisms that connect the brain and nervous system with the hormonal and immune systems. 

Relaxation, hypnosis, and mind/body approaches have been used in Western medicine for millennia by traditional healers. 

Today, the use of these approaches is becoming more widespread and they are gaining more respect and interest from researchers in medical institutions. 

Plus, the evidence is mounting that mind/body techniques may not only improve the quality of life but affect the course of a dis-ease itself. 

Scientists are deepening an understanding of the effects of stress on the body and are accumulating convincing evidence that the immune system, along with other organs and systems in the body can be influenced by the mind.

What is proposed here is a call to synthesize an approach that sees our thoughts and emotions as having a central impact on the body’s health. 

By paying attention to and exerting some control over emotional and mental states, you may help yourself stay healthy or recover more rapidly from being sick.

Seeing things this way we can go beyond attending to any physical dis-ease and attend more to the overall experience of the way dis-ease affects our “energy motions” and vivacity. 

Dealing with the whole of you is better than trying to treat your symptoms if any. 

Be active in your health care and you may be able to prevent or shorten a dis-eased course by taking steps to manage your psychological state.
